2016年度发现的第三颗超新星
在PSP系统于2016年2月13日中午12点放出的一批新图中，廖熙、高伟、沈洋、李昂、胡迪、周玖、张宓7位同好在NGC 5962星系中发现了一个亮度为17.1等的超新星侯选体并及时上报，高级用户孙霈源经过查验，确认为非常可疑并上报给TNS(TRANSIENT NAME SERVER 国际天文联合会瞬变目标命名服务网)，并报送CBAT。报告如下：
Xi Liao, Wei Gao, Yang Shen, Ang Li, Di Hu, Jiu Zhou, Mi Zhang, Peiyuan Sun and Xing Gao, report the discovery of a possible supernova (mag approximately 17.1) on one 40-s survey image (limiting mag about 19.0) taken by Xing Gao in Xingming Observation Sky Survey (C42) around Feb.12.92281 UT. Using an unfiltered CCD ( + Celestron C14 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope D=356-mm @f/6.9). The new object approximately located at R.A.=15h 36m 32s.47 Decl.=+16 36 36.7 (equinox 2000.0). Which is about 8.9" east and 8.7" north of the center of the NGC 5962.
Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Feb.07,2016 (limiting mag 19.0), or on the DSS (POSS-II Red) from Jun.20,1992 (limiting mag about 19.5).

2月14日获悉，位于智利阿塔卡玛沙漠的欧洲南方天文台使用3.58米RC镜拍摄了该目标的光谱并证实这是一颗远在1亿光年外的“II型”超新星，正式编号“SN2016afa”。这是PSP系统2016年发现的第三颗超新星（其中第二颗目前还未获得光谱验证）。
到目前为止，PSP项目已经上线半年，注册用户达1.5万人，实际参与测试并加入PSP搜索人员超过六千人，累积搜索数据量240GB。
