Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting
Publish Time:2011-07-01
The Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has organized the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting (MWISP) project since November 2011. The 13.7m millimeter wave telescope of the Qinghai Station of PMO has been used to simultaneously observe the three molecular spectral lines of CO(J=1-0) and its isotopes 13CO/C18O(J=1-0) near the galactic plane of the North sky. The first phase of the survey, which has lasted for 10 years, has been completed at the end of April 2021, covering a total of 2,400 square degrees 0°≤ l≤ 240°,|b|≤ 5°, and establishing the Millimeter Wave Radio Astronomy Database. After the discussion of the MWISP survey working group, it was decided to continue the second phase of the MWISP survey and extend the survey area to |b|<10°. This survey will help to expand scientific objectives and provide a wider range of molecular gas distribution data for multi-band astronomical research. The second phase of the survey has begun on September 1, 2021 and is expected to last the next ten years.

RIGHTS
Standard acknowledgement
This research made use of the data from the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting (MWISP) project, which is a multi-line survey in 12CO/13CO/C18O along the northern galactic plane with PMO-13.7m telescope. We are grateful to all the members of the MWISP working group, particularly the staff members at PMO-13.7m telescope, for their long-term support. MWISP was sponsored by National Key R&D Program of China with grant 2017YFA0402701 and CAS Key Research Program of Frontier Sciences with grant QYZDJ-SSW-SLH047.
