The BEst STar (BEST) Database
Kai Xiao
This dataset represents the most extensive all-sky standard star catalog to date, featuring the largest number of stars (over 200 million, approximately 1000 times more than the widely used Landolt standards in the same magnitude range), the highest precision (approximately 10 millimagnitudes), and the broadest spectral coverage (more than 200 bands, nearly 40 times that of traditional standards). Based on this standard star database, the team has calibrated multiple survey datasets to millimagnitude precision and further constructed an all-sky stellar distribution tailored to the Pan-STARRS photometric system. The resulting database, composed of the best stars (BEST) catalog, is expected to lay the foundation for achieving millimagnitude-level — or even higher — photometric precision in large-scale surveys and to play a key role in establishing a high-precision astronomical measurement framework. A database version is also available at https://nadc.china-vo.org/data/best/.
