Since its first meeting in Shanghai in 2008, EAVW has been held alternately in China, Japan and South Korea every year, playing an important role in promoting academic exchanges and cooperation among VLBI peers. Thanks to the promotion of the EAVW series, China, Japan and South Korea signed a cooperation agreement in 2018 and formally established the East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN) composed of VLBI stations in the three countries, providing important observational facilities for carrying out VLBI research in East Asia.
