  • 薄盘的形成是一个持久而有序的过程,从大约80-100亿年前一直持续至今。然而,这些图像主要来自数值模拟以及人们对碎片化观测证据的推测。
    研究团队发现,这两组恒星的年龄以大约80亿年为界同样清晰地被分成截然不同的两组。
    也就是说,从时间上看,银河系的集成和演化历史分成两个明确的阶段,从130亿年前到80亿年前的早期阶段和80亿年前至今的晚期阶段。早期阶段形成了银河系的厚盘和银晕,晚期阶段形成了银河系薄盘。
